Project's Summary:
The TRANSFoodMERS project was designed to raise awareness and strengthen the knowledge and skills of young people in the areas of climate change, sustainable food consumption, and production. By using Game-Based Learning (GBL), the project aimed to make environmental education more engaging and practical. Youth workers played a central role, using outdoor games, a serious online game, and a board game to help young people better understand the impact of food systems on the planet. Through these interactive methods, the project encouraged active learning, creativity, and personal engagement with sustainability topics.
Several key activities supported the project’s goals. Field research was carried out to assess the initial knowledge and attitudes of both young people and youth workers, which was then compiled into an e-book. Educational tools were developed, including an Outdoor Games Guide, a board game, and a digital serious game—all focused on promoting sustainable food practices. In addition, separate training sessions were held for youth workers and young participants, helping them learn how to use the resources effectively. Communication, dissemination, and evaluation efforts ensured the project reached a wide audience and maintained quality.
As a result, TRANSFoodMERS delivered a full set of tools to help young people across Europe become more aware of environmental challenges, especially those linked to food. The project not only supported learning but also created opportunities for youth to build networks, share knowledge, and improve their employability in green and sustainable sectors. By linking education with action, TRANSFoodMERS made a meaningful contribution to the goals of the EU Green Deal, promoting energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact through informed choices.
